11/30/2007 - DNA results confirm Baby Grace is Riley Ann Sawyers.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office has announced the identification of the child known to us as "Baby Grace" as 2 year old Riley Ann Sawyers of Mentor, Ohio. The child's mother and stepfather have been arrested and jailed in Galveston County on charges of Endangering a Child and Tampering with Evidence. It is believed that Riley moved to Spring, Texas in May of this year. She has not been seen since July 2007.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her father, grandmother and extended family in Mentor, Ohio as preparations are made for Riley to go home.
Riley, through her passing, brought attention to other children who may need our help. Investigators received hundreds of tips in this case and, as a result, personally checked on 65 other children to insure they are safe.
Our thanks to all of the Detectives, FBI and Galveston County community who adopted Riley as their own and vowed not to let this case go unsolved. She has touched our hearts forever and will forever be "our Baby Grace".

TRAGIC ACCIDENT OR HOMICIDE?
UNIDENTIFIED BABY GIRL
Actual box containing body of little girl is blue with a black handle.
Tragic accident or homicide? Either way, it is a sad ending to the life of an innocent little girl. She didn't deserve this. And, no matter what happened, she deserves a decent burial and a name marking her headstone.
Galveston County Sheriff's Detectives are asking for help from our community in helping to identify this little girl. She is described as being approximately 2 -5 years old with long blonde hair. The girl was wearing a pink, pullover shirt with a drawstring across the chest and sleeves that extended over three-quarters of each arm. She also wore a pink, broom-style skirt and the tennis shoes, which were child’s size 8 1/2. The shirt and skirt were both Cherokee brand.
These shoes are identical (except for size) to the shoes worn by the little girl.

Her shoes are pink and white. They have plastic flowers on the side and both the flowers and the heel light up/flash.
If you have any information regarding this case, please contact the Galveston County Sheriff's Office at 409-766-2322, or Galveston Crime Stoppers at (409) 763-TIPS. Remember, you can remain anonymous. If you don't want to call, but have information that you want detectives to know or investigate, please click our online tips tab and leave your tip. Our online tip form was designed so that Galveston Crime Stoppers appears as the sender. Your name and email address are not identified.
If her death was a tragic accident, please call. Galveston County Sheriff's Investigators and Galveston Crime Stoppers want to help. It is understandable that a parent or caregiver could panic at the unexpected death of a child and we all want to help. If you have information about the death of this baby girl, you don't have to handle this all alone.
Please don't be afraid to speak up for this little girl. Even if you just have a suspicion. Maybe a neighbor who said her daughter went to live with relatives, a little girl that unexpectedly did not return to school or daycare, a friend who has been saying for some time that her little girl is sick and can't come outside or have visitors. There are all kinds of things that might help solve this mystery if you just listen to your intuition. MAKE THE CALL. No one is going to laugh at you! No one is going to think you are silly! Every tip is important and detectives are asking those people who may know something, to please call them at 409-766-2322 or call Galveston Crime Stoppers at (409) 763-TIPS.
